SDI Advanced Adventure Diver Certification Course

Ready to go beyond your Open Water certification?

The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course introduces you to five different SDI specialty diving areas, giving you the opportunity to expand your skills, experience new types of diving and discover which specialties you would like to pursue further.

The course includes five specialty dives. Deep Diver and Navigation Diver are required, while the remaining three specialty dives can be selected according to your interests, available training options and instructor guidance.

This course is designed as an introduction to each selected specialty rather than full specialty certification. A dive completed during Advanced Adventure may contribute toward the corresponding full specialty course, subject to the applicable SDI specialty requirements.

4. WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE

During the course, you will complete five adventure dives covering different areas of diving.

Required Specialties

1. Deep Diver

Experience deeper recreational diving under the supervision of an SDI Instructor.

2. Navigation Diver

Develop your underwater navigation skills using natural references and compass navigation.

Choose 3 Additional Specialties

Depending on availability and suitability, options can include:

• Advanced Buoyancy Control
• Boat Diver
• Computer Nitrox Diver
• Drift Diver
• Marine Ecosystems Awareness
• Night Diver
• Shore/Beach Diver
• Underwater Photography
• Wreck Diver
• Other approved SDI specialties

The available choices can be discussed with your instructor before the course.

6. COURSE STRUCTURE

Five Adventure Dives

The SDI standard requires five open-water dives, with each dive representing the first dive of one of the selected specialties. All dives are conducted under the direct supervision of an active SDI Instructor.

Dive 1 — Deep Diver

The deep dive is planned to a depth greater than 18 m / 60 ft but not exceeding 30 m / 100 ft.

Dive 2 — Navigation Diver

Develop and practise underwater navigation techniques.

Dives 3–5 — Selected Specialties

Choose three additional specialty areas according to your interests and the specialties available at Eco Diver.

*For divers aged 10–15, the deep-diving component is limited to 21 m / 70 ft.

Important: The 2-day duration should be presented as Eco Diver’s planned course schedule, not as an SDI-mandated calendar duration. SDI allows instructors to structure the course according to student numbers and skill level.

8. CERTIFICATION

SDI Advanced Adventure Diver Certification

After successfully completing the required knowledge and five adventure dives, the student receives the SDI Advanced Adventure Diver certification.

The certification provides an introduction to five specialty areas and allows the diver to continue their education into individual SDI specialty courses.

10. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

Who Is This Course For?

The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course is designed for certified Open Water divers who want to expand their diving experience and explore different specialty areas before committing to individual specialty certifications.

It is suitable for divers interested in deep diving, navigation, boat diving, night diving, wreck diving, underwater photography, drift diving and other specialty areas.

11. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Important Information

• A valid SDI Open Water Scuba Diver certification or equivalent is required.
• Five open-water dives are required.
• Deep Diver and Navigation Diver are mandatory components.
• Three additional specialty areas are selected according to the course plan.
• The course is an introduction to the selected specialties and does not automatically constitute full certification in each specialty.
• Maximum deep-dive training depth is 30 m / 100 ft.
• Divers aged 10–15 cannot exceed 21 m / 70 ft for the deep-diving component.
• All dives are subject to weather, sea conditions and operational safety.
• Dive sites may change depending on weather and sea conditions.
• All training dives are conducted under the direct supervision of an active SDI Instructor.
• Junior divers are subject to applicable SDI age and supervision restrictions.
